Quality is the Key to Success: Health and Wellness Included

The world of health and wellness, weight loss and fitness gets very confusing. And that is a subject that came up this weekend. The market is flooded with options. Do they really work? How do they compare to one another. What do they really provide? What is my strategy and offering in contrast? And that leads me to this article and hopefully to helping you make authentic choices for your health and wellness.

Diets Plans and Program

You know the programs. Weight Watchers, Slim Fast and Jenny Craig are the most commonly known. They are marketed on the airwaves of TV and radio. You see the ads on billboards, hear the celebrity testimonials. And very likely you have tried one if not all in your pursuit of health and wellness. Do they work? Yes, in a way they do.

Then there are the diet plans. The all soup diet. The no carb diet. South Beach, Atkins and so many more flooding the market with hopes of weight loss and health. Again, yes they do bring some ‘results.”

But here is where I get derailed, even in the face of those results.

First, these programs are based on a diet mindset. Meals are weighed, measured and counted. Calories are watched like a hawk with every bite being monitored.

Secondly, they are not quality based. In other words, they fail to address whole foods- authentic, God designed, nature grown sources of nutrition. Refined and processed foods remain the foundation of the nutrition being offered by most. In fact, some of these programs allow and even encourage you to eat the same low quality foods that contributed to your health and wellness problem in the first place only in weighed and measured portions.

Thirdly, deprivation is an element of many of these efforts. The list of cannot haves is far longer than the cans and the replacements are bland, boring, bleak, repetitive food offerings that are impossible to sustain for life.

Fourth, they are not cheap. Most put a sizeable dent in your wallet and demand the purchase of even more products and services to get the full benefits declared in the marketing campaigns.

My question then becomes, are these real, authentic solutions?

Super Foods

It seems that there is a new one hitting the market every day. These new discoveries promise rapid results from weight loss to healing and muscle gain. You know them as Acai, Mona Vie, Shakeology, Juice Plus to name some of the more common and in all likelihood, like the diet plans and programs above, you have tried one or all! You may have even seen some results.

They are not cheap either. $100 a month or more for a small bottle or bag is not uncommon. And they don’t reduce the grocery bill!

Furthermore, though many claim to be from authentic, all natural, real ingredients, they remain refined. They have been dehydrated, ground, sifted, heated, pasteurized, formulated, compressed, encapsulated, added to, taken away from and then delivered to your door no longer nearly what they began as when harvested from those powerful natural sources.

Once again, it begs the question is this an authentic solution to your health and wellness concerns?

Gyms and Personal Trainers

These days, gyms are everywhere. There are the super gyms like LA Fitness, Planet Fitness, and 24 Hour Fitness that cater to the masses, have the latest and greatest high tech equipment and every conceivable form of fitness opportunities known. Then there are the local boutique gyms. These are catered to the individual client, generally offering less in terms of equipment and classes but more in aesthetic value, personal touch and participation from owners and trainers. Of course they all have personal trainers on staff for hire to help guide you to your fitness goals.

In recent years, these memberships have become a bit more affordable but what do you really get? You get a well equipped facility to foster your fitness goals. That is a great thing for sure as home gyms can really set you back. But that is just one element of health and wellness. Just one! There is no account for nutrition, lifestyle, home environmental health. It is your money paying for the space and the tools…not a bad thing, but again, just one piece of the puzzle.

And if you want to take your fitness higher, you can hire a personal trainer at an hourly fee. They will guide you in your workouts even provide you with complete plans. But that is extra…a lot extra. Sadly, in many cases, what you get is a trained, skilled gym buddy not a lifestyle and wellness coach who can empower you with all the elements required for authentic health and wellness.

I love gyms, even belong to one myself. I am also a personal trainer but again, I have to ask, is this THE complete solution to authentic health and wellness?

So now to answer that question.

NO!

These are not authentic solutions, especially on their own. Sure the Weight Watchers plan may be better than what you were doing before, the Acai juice may be offering some aid and the gym membership certainly has value. But as noted, they fall short of being an authentic, complete solution and answer for your needs.

So it all boils down to this….Lifestyle. That is the answer. Learning a lifestyle of health and wellness based on authentic provision from nutrition to fitness, and home environmental health is the answer.

Learn a lifestyle and you will achieve authentic health and wellness.

How?

I’m having a hard time trying to keep my mother-in-maw straight with her diabetes she has always eaten all the wrong foods for it and at almost 92 it’s hard to get her to change her ways. She is on chemo and it makes her blood sugar skyrocket every time. I’m trying to work with my children to eat right now and avoid this family adult onset. My husband is thin but loves sweets.. Both of his parents are diabetes.

    • http://www.el3mentsofwellness.com/ Carl Mason-Liebenberg

My prayers are with you. It is so hard to shift these mindsets laetr on and the doctors, frankly, are not helping. They rpescribe meds and leave it at that in most cases never really considering prevention…Diabetes is one of those diseases that can so readily be controlled, even prevented. Such a shame really. So stay on your kids and husband! Thin is not always a measure of health!

Wow!  Okay, I am thinking how I need you to coach me along!  Just signed up for your recipes – cannot wait to see them and try them!  I have tried diet after diet and lost, but then gained back some when I quit.  Tried the gym thing too but found I enjoy jogging more than going to the gym.  I’ve got the exercise part down, I just need help on the food part.

    • http://www.el3mentsofwellness.com/ Carl Mason-Liebenberg

Mandy…we don’t do diets! :-) It is a lifestyle that we learn in the Inner Circle and I just think you would thrive..plus we have a lot of fun as we do! Would love to join you in reaching those goals!
