Let me tell you a story about cholesterol, a tight deadline, high risk and uncertainty…
Three weeks ago, I received a distress call. A client’s husband had been given the news that his cholesterol was at a dangerous 248. Not only was his health at risk, but so was his job. 30 days to lower the numbers or lose his job… that was the firm and unsettling verdict.
Did you know that as your cholesterol nears 250, your risk for heart disease doubles? It’s a dangerous business and it is generally silent until the crisis strikes. The employer knew that!
So, we had a double mission. We had a life at risk and a job at stake and we had 30 days to accomplish the goal. Could it be done?
I believed it could. Statistics didn’t necessarily back that belief; especially with a commitment to doing so 100% naturally. His wife took the lead, we chatted on Skype, and set our course.
Now you may be thinking, poor guy. The stress of a job at stake, his health risks looming in his mind and now he is put on harsh diet adding to the pressure. Not altogether true. Actually, when our plan was determined, he ate quite well. Sure, a few habits had to change. But he certainly was not on a deprivation, bland, boring, tasteless, meatless, all veggie meal plan. He ate well. Baked salmon, spanish “rice” quinoa, abundantly loaded salads, fresh soups and even noodles with homemade sauce were just a few of the hearty, rich, flavourful whole foods he enjoyed. Some unfamiliar yet traditional elements were introduced such as miso and udon noodles but it was all real food made with authentic ingredients from nature’s bounty.
Weekly we chatted, checking in, making adjustments and being sure we were taking every natural measure possible to ensure both health and career. The family joined in, making it a lifestyle change for all.
17 days later, a test was done and I received this excited message!
“Oh my GOODNESS!!!! He took his cholesterol test this morning and it went down 98 points!!!! It is 150 Woohoo!!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!”
Dare I say, I’m not surprised. The simple truth of the matter is that God made him and made perfect provision for him. All we did was to apply the provision made for a lifestyle of health and wellness. And when we did, the rest simply fell into place as it was designed to do.
We live with so many aches, pains, ailments. We are at risk of heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, cancer and much of the time, nutrition is what has empowered those maladies. We trade our health for convenience and tastebud pleasure that we have learned in recent decades of refined, processed, manmade food sources. We unwittingly surrender our birthright of health and wellness to these modern conveniences and temporary sources of pleasure.
All the while, right before us exists all the elements we need to be well, to be strong, to not survive but to thrive.
And that is what we did in the face of this crisis. We applied the principles of God’s provision through nature. We didn’t set off on a deprivation diet. I didn’t prescribe freaky foods that no one could pronounce or that had to come from across the globe. He didn’t take synthetic meds made in a lab somewhere.
God’s provision, that I learned through my own experiences and life journey, is what brought healing and saved his job.
The world of health and wellness today is filled with information, opportunities, programs, diet plans. But I stand firm in my conviction that there is only one true way to health and wellness and that way is the way God designed it and nature provided it.
That’s the plan he and his family implemented 3 weeks ago. 17 days was all it took for it to work. And now, not only does he have job security but health as well. He has established a lifestyle of wellness that, when maintained will do just the same for him- maintain him for an abundant life.
Now what better way? Dare I say, there is none!
