10 Elements of Proper Gym Style For Guys

I wanted to go for a topic that was a bit lighter today; something with a little humor yet still bearing value. This topic, gym style for guys, arises from my frequent shock through the years of just what guys find acceptable in the gym. I’ve seen some of the most appalling outfits, witnessed shocking behavior and well, seen and heard more than I ever wanted to see and hear.

Like it or not, there are rules of etiquette for the gym.

In spite of the trend to go in our scruffiest rags, excused by the sweat, wear and tear, we do need to present ourselves as though we are in the public eye and have some respect both for ourselves and those we will encounter. We need to realize that there are others present, many who are not that comfortable in the environment to begin with and that safety involves more than form when working out. With that said, I’ve determined a few simple rules to follow.

1.       If you can smell yourself, be assured everyone around you can smell you too! Wear deodorant and give yourself a sniff as you move along in your routine.
2.       Those over sized, striped, baggy butt to the knees pants should not be seen in public. They should be cut up and used for cleaning projects.
3.       Your cell phone and all its beeps, dings and your voice shouting into it have no place in the gym. They are distracting and annoying. Please leave it in the locker!
4.       Jewelery is not for the weight room. In fact, it is dangerous. So, leave the bling at home and ensure that you keep all your appendages.
5.       Grunting and huffing should not be part of the gym’s playlist. Yes, if you lift heavy, it is a part of the deal. Just don’t exaggerate it. Keep it down!
6.       Wear flip flops in the locker room to keep your fungal matters to yourself. No one wants to take home unexpected guests!
7.       Shorts should be knee length to ensure that your assets are covered!
8.       No commando! That is one muscle that is not worked out in the gym so keep it in place and too yourself!
9.       Wearing a shirt with the gyms logo is loco. You are there and so is your audience. Keep them for advertising your favorite gym on the streets!
10.   Keep your shirt on. Yes, I know you work hard for those abs. But not everyone has them.  Besides, at least attempt to maintain a barrier between your sweaty body and the equipment. Its simple courtesy.
These are just a few fun and simple and courteous rules of etiquette to follow in the gym that will help make the experience comfortable for all.
Now, ladies, we need one for you! Will you help me out? Give me some feedback in the comment section below!!

I love this Carl, I always go to the gym presentable even if I come out sweating like a pig and taking care of yourself is not just the nutrition and exercise but how we think of ourselves and how we present ourselves to others. I also agree that not everyone is comfortable to begin with (i certainly wasn’t i was very self concious) so we definitely have to behave in a manner befitting everyone.

I think this type of gym rat behavior is a huge turn off to want-a-be’s. I always wanted to run away… until I gained strength and could stand my ground a bit…I stilll though feel intimidated by these guys at times…

How about, in the locker room, don’t set up your stuff at a sink by the mirror and then leave it there while you shower! My wife has complained of this in the women’s locker at the gym.

For guys: no flexing if you’re not lifting! Just because you can flex your pecs now, doesn’t mean you should!
